Midrash Rabbah: "When Israel takes and blow the Shofar before the Holy One, Blessed is He. He stands from the judgment seat and sits in the mercy seat." Meaning, while Gd {this name is the degree of judgment} comes to judge, he sits on the judgment seat. But thanks to the sound of the Shofar that Israel blows, the Holy One stands from the judgment seat and sits in the throne of mercy - "the LRD {this name is the degree of mercy} with the sound of the shofar."
Bnei Zion: "the Tosfot, from the Yerushalmi: "When the Satan hears the sound of the Shofar, in the first blow when we sit - he is frightened, and when he hears the second sound of the Shofar, while we stand - he says ‘surely it is the sound of the great Shofar that Gd will blow in the future redemption’ [he is worries that this time has now come], as it is written "And it shall come to pass on that day, that a great shofar shall be sounded” Then he thinks the time has come for him to be cut off from the world, (as our sages said: “In the future to come, Gd brings the evil inclination and slaughters it), then he gets confused, and has no time to accuse Israel for their sins.
And we need to truly understand these things. Doesn’t the devil see that it is not Gd who blows the Shofar? It is Israel down below, that blow and cheering! (what is happening here?) Our sages say, we have a great rule is in our hands, that "just as we behave downward (in this world), so do Heaven behave. And as the Holy Shalah said, in the name of the Midrash, quoted the verse in the Psalms: “The Lrd is your Guardian; the Lrd is your shadow; [He is] by your right hand.” Just as the shadow of man "do" what the man does, so too, "the Lrd is your shadow" – the Holy One acts in Heaven just as Israel act in this world.
Therefore, Gd commanded us, in his great mercy and grace, to blow the Shofar, as it is written: "It shall be a day of shofar sounding for you." For, as Israel blow the Shofar below (= in this world), so it is in Heaven, in the aspect of "the Lrd is your shadow", the Almighty will also blow the Shofar!!!...
Now we can understand, why the devil is frightened when he sees that Israel blows the Shofar twice (once sitting and once standing). Because he understands, that by blowing the Shofar down in this world, so too, Gd blows the Shofar up in Heaven, and then he (the devil) is startled and confused, because he thinks that the time has already come for it to happen: “on that day, that a great shofar shall be sounded.” which is the time of the redemption of Israel. And he (= the evil inclination, the devil) will be eliminated and pass from the world - soon in our days, Amen!"
